Chris Swope, President of the Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks (MAMC) and Clerk of the City of Lansing, says that Michigan’s signature verification format could be improved by allowing residents to provide more signatures than are attained from just their driver’s license/state ID card, as signatures change and are altered due to age, physical condition, etc. Clerk Swope pointed out systems in other places such as Colorado that provide five signatures to base verification off of, and suggested greater efforts be made to afford municipalities to check and verify addresses on their voter roll to ensure that non-resident voters are no longer on the rolls after their move can be confirmed through reliable sources.
