Michigan Return to Learn Council Chairperson Tonya Allen, Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce President Joe Bauman and other news-makers discuss the latest COVID-19 information on this full edition of the Oakland County Megacast!

Tonya Allen, Chairperson of the Michigan Return to Learn and President & CEO of the Skillman Foundation, talks about the council’s discussions as to how to return K-12 students to schools in the fall, as well as how those decisions may impact the schools, the students, the parents, and the community. Also, Chairperson Allen discussed how critical that it will be for the State to help bridge the technology gap between school districts and families in order to ensure that virtual learning is feasible for all of Michigan’s students come the fall.

Joe Bauman, President of the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, provides a status update on how local businesses have been doing as industries re-open, urges consumers to be kind, patient and follow the rules, and talks about the balancing acts for businesses to not turn away customers while also enforcing critical safety guidelines in order to prevent a second shutdown of operations.

Additionally, Ernie Birchmeier, Manager of the Center for Commodity, Farm and Industry Relations at the Michigan Farm Bureau, talks about how the livestock and agricultural supply chain has been affected by COVID-19 and what new protocols are in place across the supply chain to optimize safety standards, and Avondale Schools Superintendent Dr. James Schwarz updates us on Avondale’s Fiscal Year 2021 budget, the financial hit that they are preparing to take from the state on this and next year’s budgets, as well as the importance of communication and partnership with the County and neighboring districts in order to assure fall plans are at their best for local students.
