Rising Voices of Asian-American Families Executive Director, Laura Misumi, says that allies of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, whether white or people of color, need to respond to racist and xenophobic comments from friends, co-workers, family and others seriously, questioning why someone would consider such comments to be OK and educating them on why such comments are degrading, reductive and harmful. Additionally, she emphasized the need for allies to take charge in educating themselves on the history of Asian Americans.
